Ricardo Roman
Congratulations to Ricardo Roman, a graduate from Lennard High School Collegiate Academy, as well as an Associate of Arts degree from Hillsborough Community College. Ricardo plans to attend the University of Central Florida to obtain a degree in Kinesiology – Exercise Science.
Savannah Whitaker
Congratulations to Savannah Whitaker, a graduate of East Bay High School, who also graduated with her Associate in Arts degree from Hillsborough Community College. The next chapter takes Savannah to Florida State University, where she plans to pursue her passion for science by studying Meteorology, intending to become a broadcast meteorologist.
Hope Friedrichsen
Congratulations to Hope Friedrichsen, a graduate of Sumner High School and a young woman who exemplifies the very spirit of this scholarship. Hope plans to attend Hawai‘i Pacific University, where she will pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, with aspirations of becoming an obstetrician/gynecologist.
Brooklyn Kadoguchi
Congratulations to Brooklyn Kadoguchi, a graduate of East Bay High School and recipient of a 2025 Riverview Woman’s Club Scholarship. Brooklyn plans to attend Nova Southeastern University, where she will pursue a degree in Juvenile Justice. Her goal is to make a meaningful impact by supporting and advocating for children in the foster care system.
Sulei Mejia
Congratulations to Sulei Mejia, a graduate from Riverview High School in the top 1% of the Class of 2025, who also earned her Associate of Arts degree from Hillsborough Community College. Sulei plans to attend the University of Florida to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Health Administration, with her sights set on obtaining advanced degrees and ultimately serving as a Chief Operating Officer in a hospital settin

The 2025 Larry Brooks Scholarship Award goes to

Congratulations to Jocelyn Canalez for being awarded the 2025 Larry Brooks Scholarship. Jocelyn served all four years in JROTC, earning recognition as a Distinguished Cadet for academic excellence and receiving a Commendation Award for Outstanding Performance. Through high school cosmetology classes, she discovered a passion for dermatology. She plans to attend Florida Atlantic University to study Biology and continue to graduate school to become a dermatologist. Larry Brooks continues supporting his community by consistently sponsoring a yearly scholarship to a worthy East Bay Scholar. “I’m honored to present a scholarship to this remarkable young woman”, says Larry. “Despite facing personal challenges, including damage to her home from Hurricanes Helene and Milton, Jocelyn remained committed to her academic success and excelled throughout high school".

Leanna Russell
Congratulations to Leanna Russell, a graduate from East Bay High School and the recipient of the 2025 Vocational Scholarship sponsored by Heather Schlagheck. Leanna has balanced two passions that have helped shape who she is today—soccer and cosmetology. Through soccer, she’s learned the value of discipline and teamwork. Through cosmetology, she’s discovered the power of creativity and self-expression. That passion led her to earn her cosmetology license at just 17 years old—a milestone that reflects her drive and commitment to her craft. Looking ahead, Leanna plans to attend Florida Atlantic University, majoring in Business and Marketing with hopes of running her own salon.
“Sponsoring this Vocational Scholarship was essential to me because I truly value students who choose to pursue a trade, says Heather Schlagheck. “I know firsthand how essential these skilled trades are to our communities and society. This year’s recipient, Leanna, is a perfect example—she’s not only continuing her education but also dreams of becoming an entrepreneur. I’m proud to support her journey and excited to see where her ambition takes her”.

Angelina Vazquez
Congratulations to the recipient of the 2025 Dr Earl Lennard Scholarship, Angelina Vazquez, graduating from Lennard High School with an honors diploma and an Associate of Arts degree from Hillsborough Community College. She plans to attend Florida State University to major in biomedical sciences and become a Pediatric Neurologist. She wants to be able to speak out for those in her community who cannot speak out for themselves to get proper medical treatment.
Valerie Dominguez
Congratulations to the 2025 Dr. Earl Lennard Scholarship to Cheyanne Whitaker, graduating from East Bay High School. Cheyanne plans to attend the University of South Florida, where she will major in medical and health sciences with the inspiring goal of becoming a cardiovascular surgeon, dedicating her future to saving lives and advancing healthcare.
